On Thin Land

by Nathaniel McKenzie

Drowning in student debt, Carmen wants nothing more than a clean slate. So when she gets the opportunity to pay what she owes, she takes it, even though it means a year spent very far from home. Eager for an adventure and with no responsibilities of his own, her boyfriend Chris decides to come along for the ride.

But her employers don’t seem to care whether they live or die and their new home seems to want them gone. Forced to unravel the lies of the firm, Carmen must reckon with the costs of her freedom and Chris, the price of his wealth.
